Owner Surrender Information
Our primary focus is pulling dogs from shelters. We may take owner surrenders on a case-by-case basis if volunteer space is available.
Process
Complete the Owner Surrender Application. Be as detailed as possible, and include at least one photo. Completing this form does not commit you or guarantee GSDRI to placing your dog into rescue.
We require that the dog be up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered. We will contact your veterinarian to confirm. In most cases, you will need to address the items that are not current prior to our acceptance of the dog.
We require a thorough temperament evaluation be conducted by one of our volunteers. We are generally unable to accept a dog that has bitten a person, however, we will review each case individually.
If your dog is approved by the board, we charge a $50 placement fee to help cover expenses for the dog while in our care.
Ownership must be signed over to GSDRI, and copies of all vet records and relevant paperwork must be provided.
Timeline
The typical time to between submitting the request form and GSDRI taking posession of your dog is about 2 weeks.
